  • UMD Alum Madieu Williams to be Featured on NBC Nightly News

    The highly anticipated NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams piece featuring UMD alum and Minnesota Viking Madieu Williams (Class of 2003) will air Wednesday, September 8 at 6:30/7 p.m. (check your local listings for time) to coincide with the start of the 2010 NFL regular season. NBC became interested in Madieu's international philanthropic efforts last November when he announced the Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health.
  • Crime Prevention Initiative Focuses on Education, Awareness

    In an effort to keep students safe, the University of Maryland Police, Prince George's County Police, Adele H. Stamp Student Union - Center for Campus Life, and the Student Government Association have teamed up to create CRIME TIME - Get Home Safely, a crime prevention and awareness initiative launched this week.
  • UMD Receives $1.9 Million from NSF for Investigations of Biomolecular Structure

    The University of Maryland has received a $1.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation to acquire a superconducting 800 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrometer that will help scientists and engineers to solve complex problems in biology and medicine.
  • Knight Hall Certified as First University-Owned LEED Gold Green Building at University of Maryland College Park

    The Green Building Certification Institute this week awarded a LEED Gold rating to the Philip Merrill College of Journalism’s John S. and James L. Knight Hall, making it the first green building on the University of Maryland, College Park campus owned by the university to earn the designation.
  • Scope and Depth of UMD's Commitment to Minority Education: Diverse Issues Rankings

    A list of the Top 100 Producers of Minority Degrees was released this summer by Diverse Issues in Higher Education. Maryland's depth of minority graduates—African American, Asian American, Hispanic and Native American—extends through all Diverse Issues rankings: baccalaureate, master's degrees, and doctorates. The current rankings are based on degree numbers for the 2008-2009 school year.
